  • Engine: I need to identify V8 cylinder heads

I have a bunch (12) of Studebaker V8 cylinder heads. I acquired them about 10 years ago and just 're-discovered' them (we all know how that happens). I'm sure someone can use some or all of them, but I don't know what they are (early, late, 232, 259, 289, etc.).
There are three different casting numbers; 535976, 1557670 and 1555294. I hope someone can help me identify these.
    Thanks!

'56 Golden Hawk (3 speed/overdrive, Power steering - Running, but not yet driving)
'58 Packard Hawk. A partially restored car that was not completely assembled.

Your 1557670 is probably: 1557570 the very common '63-'64 Lark, Hawk 259 & 289 and R1 Avanti casting number Head.

535976 Low Comp. Truck and Export '57-'60, may have also been used on '55 259 & '56 259/289.

If you are updating, I don't think there is a casting number 1555295. I believe that is the part number for casting 155294.

That Casting Number should read: 1555294.
Always remember that any New Part created for 1956 and Later Production will have a 7 Digit Part Number and Casting Number.
                  ________________________________________________________________
There are many errors in that listing, mostly the compression Ratios, the same CC's have multiple Compression numbers shown, sometimes because people are confused about the Head Gaskets.
In other cases the results are from different sources.

I think we would need the Blueprints to correctly/accurately match up the Casting Numbers to the Part Numbers.

Thin Shim Metal Head Gaskets 1545072 were used on all 1957 and later V8 Engines to achieve the Rated Compression and Horsepower Rating for Domestic CARS.

I know that maybe Half or more of the Engines running today have the Thick Composition Type Gaskets for several reasons, but actually ONLY 1955 and 1956 Car Engines came with those.

Nowadays we have a NEW THIRD (Black) Head Gasket Type that "SOME" Stude, Vendors sell, it will give you about 1/4 Point LESS Compression than the Ratings for the Thin Type, whereas the Thick Composition "Sandwich") Type 535982 will Drop it by 1/2 Point on '57 to '64's.
