    Studebaker driveshaft tunnels are already off center. Almost all rearends have the pinion off center as well. Measure twice, cut once.

      I've a maverick 8" in my '53 and its definately narrower than the dana 27 that was originally there. Measured from wheel mounting flange to flange, its around 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" narrower. When I was running stock 5" stude rims on the car, the rear tires looked way too tucked in back there. I've since put in 1/2" wheel spacers and longer studs and changed to 6" ford rims where the extra width is mostly to the outside and things look about right now.
