  • Engine: Petes Garage youtube 1962 Studebaker Hawk engine removal and overhaul

    Hello,
This is my first post so I hope I'm putting it in the right location on the forum. Pete's Garage (youtube) has just begun a new series of videos about removing and rebuilding a 289 Studebaker from a '62 Hawk. He begins with removal of the engine, then disassembly and inspection of parts. This series is not yet complete, but I thought it might be interesting to all Studebaker owners.

Pete from Pete's Garage approaches this in a systematic and orderly way. He is very meticulous and thoughtful, with lot's of tips and technical advice.

I've watched and enjoyed his approach. As proud owner of 63 Champ 289. Currently working on sputtering ignition.I haven't got it yet.

Parts cleaning, Magnafluxing, machining, balancing and assembly all being done at the machine shop, then back to Pete's Garage for final assembly then dyno testing and tuning. Reinstall into Hawk and back on the road. I am hoping this will take some time so I won't have to store the car for the winter snow season.

                      Methinks.... YES!

I wouldn't want him working on my engine...

What have you seen that makes you say that?

Zero knowledge regarding Stude engines paving the way for mistakes in re-assembly etc. along with increased labor costs.

I always recommend mechanics with at least a familiarity with the Studebaker design/function to minimize surprises...

What should I look for that would indicate problems down the road?

I have the same question as peterhawk.

I saw a well organized guy doing a disassembly.

What is so different that a engine builder would have trouble building an engine?
