Speaking of banks, did you folks here about the NEGATIVE interest rates recently set by some Japanese banks in an effort stimulate their economy?

I'm not sure there's money to be made from these intro $12 subscriptions themselves. Rather, paid subscriptions are the basis for rates that can be charged advertisers, which makes sense.

That's why you get those ridiculously-cheap offers from Automobile Magazine, Hot Rod,and Motor Trend (among others) that sometimes amount to well under a buck an issue delivered; so they can charge more for advertising. Nothing wrong with that, it's a perfectly legitimate marketing tool, but some of those other magazines wind up having so much advertising in them they are a PITA to have lying around.

Hemmings seems to have a handle on that (not that I know anything about it; I don't), possibly charging more for existing ad space, rather than increasing the number of advertisements in the magazine. Personally, I like that....but, again, that's my theory; I have no inside knowledge on the matter. BP
Adverting rates are set by paid circulation and is audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulation, which keeps track of circulation numbers for most magazines and newspapers. The higher the circulation, the more that can be charged for ad space. So you're doing you part to increase Hemming's circulation and enabling them to set high advertising rates.
Their publisher should be loving you for your help!! :O)

There are no more $12 coupons for now.

Steve Brown spoke up first for the last one.

Mark Klinger, your request came into my PM box after Steve's. I'll put you on hold until I get some more. I should be able to find some around here somewhere....so sit tight; I wrote down your address and will likely find one to send you, but it won't go out tomorrow (Monday, February 2) with the other seven in the OUT mail box now on my desk. You bet, Lew...but since I'm paid for my quarterly column, I hereby disclose having a vested interest in Hemmings' continued success. BP

I've found 19(!) more $12 coupons (I thought I had them somewhere and just uncovered them!) and will begin a new thread to announce them, since this is off John Clary's original topic here.

Mark Klinger: A coupon from this newly-found batch will go out to you with tomorrow's mail; no need to remind me or re-request. BP
