  • Where to get correct heater hoses for 1957 Golden Hawk?

    Hello Studebaker Community,

I bought a few parts from Studebaker International. But one thing that I still can't find are correct heater hoses for my 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk.

I would like to replace my very old ones, that are installed now. There is also a kink in the hose at the end (see picture).

My question is, where can I get correct ones (pre-bent preferred) for my car? It seems that no Studebaker vendor has them

Thank you very much for your help.

    Regards

    Got the old molded hoses?

I read somewhere that there is a company that can duplicate molded hoses exactly. In Australia perhaps?

Check with NAPA auto parts. They may not have them in stock, but can probably get them in a couple of days.
      Give them a try.

Every line of automotive hoses has 90 degree bend hoses available. The short end is 4 inches or so, and the long end can be 36", 48", 60", so you can readily find one to fit your Studebaker. They are available in 5/8" and 3/4" hose. I am a Studebaker parts dealer and I always stock a few 90 degree end heater hoses. Particularly needed on later Lark types.
Ask your parts counterman for the illustrated parts catalog that is sitting under the counter, forgotten.

For example, search for "Dayco molded heater hose" and you'll find plenty of possibilities.

I was able to find a replacement hose at NAPA for my 1964 Avanti R2 with a molded 90 degree turn. I had to trim a little from both ends resulting in a perfect fit. The part number is shown in the photo of the new hose and the old.

If a good quality heater hose is used, they be no need for a "formed" hose to be used in this application.
......Just wondering....Is your engine running?......Where be the SC belt??

Before I found the formed hose shown above I used what I thought was high quality US made Goodyear hose and kinked no matter how I installed it. The factory hose was formed.

OT, but I like the pic of your 57GH motor, which shows that the car is actually driven: the intake paint is burned away, in the area of the exhaust crossover, and the SC intake port looks like it has sucked lots of air in its time. Congrats on having a car that is being used as it was intended to be: DRIVEN !

Back on topic, I prefer the later, 90 degree heater hose fitting, coming off the WP manifold, used on later Studes. That way, I can just run standard hose, available by the foot, cut to length, instead of looking for specially molded hose.

                    Hello together.

Thank you very much for your answers. I will look for a 90 degree hose as the one pictured above to avoid the kink.

By the way, I removed quite a lot of things, supercharger, air cleaner, etc. Therefore the unusual photo.

Joe, thank you for the comment about the motor, that it has a nice used look. This won't stay this way, as I am about to repaint it turquoise and I will also give the exhaust manifolds some treatment to freshen them up. But the car will of course be driven again as much as I can - it's no garage queen

I found some things that need replacement such as fuel hose, idler arm bushing, heater hoses, etc. One thing at a time I think.

                    Have a nice week.

Your Hawk should use 5/8" hose, not 3/4".

Hello Studebakercenteroforegon. Well, some of my hoses are just 3/4", I will leave it that way. I contacted Silverplate about the parts.

But your post about 5/8" hose really confuses me.

I am still confused. I measured 2.1cm which equals 0.83inch so it seems that the hose which comes from the water pump and runs over the generator is 3/4"...

                              I don't know if I should have a smaller 5/8" everywhere...

Were there different fittings for the water pump? water pump seems original. Maybe an owner of a 57 Golden Hawk could enlighten me about that topic

                              Thank you
