If the cart guy really wants to cater to the Stude crowd, he'll offer them next year with Hawk, Lark, and bullet nose grills

I enjoy reading all you stories about the Dover meet. I do want to go to St. Louis for the meet. I am still working on my 39 Commander. Right now I have the gas tank off being clean and coated. The gas gauge did not work and its the tank unit. It was froze up now free and works as it should. The cork will be coated with the same stuff that use in the tank. I hope it a easy fix? Next the wipers and horn to be fixed. I want to get a copy of the judging standards so I can prepare for St. Louis. I di judge at the National Meet in the Ford V-8's. I judge 39 and 40. Been doing that for several years. Next year I want to show my 1940 Ford Conv. at the National meet. Is there any books for the 39 Studebaker?

The mobility vendor must not have had much success as they were gone by Wednesday.

The ATHS has been offering golf carts at their meets for years.

I agree with Allen. Some of operators do not watch where they are going with them, or travel at excessive speeds in crowded areas.

Glad to see some people from east of the Continental Divide mentioning hot weather and the 4th of July as being a reason for not attending the meet. I have been on my soap box regarding the increasing unwillingness of us old folks and our old cars to put up with the torturous summer meets. I know of only two people from the PNW who were scheduled to attend and they were obligated to because of Board obligations. There is little question in my mind as to why Lancaster was so well attended, because of where it was and because it was in held in September. The weather was beautiful and cars showed up from all over the country. One of my other favorite meets was 1999 Rapid City because it too was a September meet with beautiful weather and I was able to drive a Stude. Sadly with the meets that are scheduled and when they are scheduled I doubt that I will be around long enough to attend another national meet. Most of our friends agree that it is unlikely that they will attend another summer national.-Bill

I've always wondered why the month's of September and October are so often ignored for events. For the mid-west, these month's are normally extremely pleasant weather-wise and motel rates lower than summer months.

At the risk of sounding like grumpy curmudgeon, I lost interest in activities atop black asphalt during the heat of summer exercising the Stude's at sunrise.

                I'm just saying...

Wanted to add this. A tip of my Stude hat to any chapter willing and able to step up and plan the big meets. Our chapter has almost 100 registered members, all great people like most Studebaker folk. But, apparently like all, our membership has aged. I'm 57 and a whippersnapper age wise. I do not think our chapter is capable of taking on all that's necessary to pull off a regional or international meet due to the affects of father time on the membership. Most do not drive their Stude's anymore in the interest of health and safety. Nothing stops father time nor member challenges.

No matter when you plan a meet no time will be perfect for everyone. June is probably the best time for weather but weddings, graduations, etc. are also planned for the same reasons. July has the 4th and starts to get hot, August is out of the question except for the PNW and other far northern states. I believe the interest in July meets is due to trying to bring the kids along since other months may interfere with school. There is not going to be a best time for all.

I don't understand the whole argument of having it in the summer when kids are out of school. The majority of members ages means their kids are in their 40's!
They better be out of school!

Well my son is 12 and I know there were a number of grandkids at Dover. I think you need to be proactive. You want to bring new blood in the club if young folks cannot bring their kids they will not come to the meets.

I finished installing genuine Studebaker A/C in my 62 GT Hawk on the 26th and headed for Dover on the 28th. The car ran like a fine tuned Studebaker watch. 2086 miles round trip. The A/C is still blowing 40 degrees. Just used it a couple times and was a life saver! Especially in Chicago and around Baltimore (where the traffic really sucked). We had a great time. Didn't agree with some of the hotel rules, but it's a casino and money rules.

Stopped by the Yuengling brewery on the way back and got a great souvenir. Pics added. Watch my website next week for the Dover page. Lots of pics including the National Mall in DC.

Well made points.....After looking at the attendance at the Dover Meet, knowing the WORK that it takes to hold an event, I will be absolutely amazed if these meets even exist in 5 to 10 years.

KUDOS to the Delmarva Studebaker Club! I absolutely enjoyed the planned events that they undertook, without them I would have been bored to tears looking over the swap meet for parts (of interest to me) that were not there.

We have to really look at our aging population within this club, knowing the cars, the owners and vendors are getting older, and let's face it these cars are not easy to drive comparing them to today's comfort and ease of driving of a modern car. How many of our younger whippersnipper members <60 have the ability, commitment and energy to organizing an event or even driving a Studebaker to the event in future years?

I have to hand it to guy's like Don Simmons and other vendors who show up, pack trailers full of exhaust system and parts, unload them, setup, and tear it all down days later.

Job well done and thanks to all of you that made this event possible and fun for Caroline and I.
