I drove the big truck just over 300 miles or so this week. It is a 1962 1 ton with custom rear box and canopy. It was sold as a cab and chassis and had a custom thick metal 9 foot box and canopy built for work in the oil fields. Originally, it was a 289, 4 speed, 5.13 TT rear end.
We have updated to a 4.56 TT and added a new process 5 speed OD. The 289 is bored .030 and has a WCFB 4 bbl and single exhaust. ( Stock build )
Any guess as to what this new MPG will be? The truck is 5900 pounds. It went around 300 miles with a 2000 pound trailer and towed a few cars. It had the trailer + a 5,000 pound Lincoln for half of the trip and had a parts truck for a few dozen miles. Half of the trip, it was just truck+ emty trailer.
It was 11,400 pounds with the parts/scrap truck on the back. The Lincoln was way heavier and was about 100 miles each way.!
Place your guess. This will drive studerich crazy, even he does not know the answer! (and it's his truck)
