  • The Lively Set is one of my favorite movies. I have a poster for it.
Saw "This is not a Test" 2008. I didn't see the whole movie but there was an Avanti at the airport near the end.

      • Claude--

Dang, I've wanted to see that sequence again for years...bright orange early-model Lark 4dr which gets dissed facetiously by Fonzie much to Mr C's disgust!

Possible Studebaker content BTW in "Red Tails", the forthcoming Lucasfilm flick about the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II...saw a set of photos taken on a location shoot in the Czech Republic, there's an unmistakable Stude 6x6 truck among the vehicles (unmistakable not only for its M-series cab, but for the name STUDEBAKER stenciled prominently on a plate atop the grille!). French-based B-17 "Pink Lady" is also present, so if she sports one or more Stude-built R1820s, there's another bit of Stude content in what could be a fine film...

        • Why would Mr. C (who lives in Milwaukee, WI) be driving a Studebaker when Ramblers were made nearby in Kenosha?? I guess Mr. C wasnt very patriotic to his state. Perhaps thats why his oldest son left home after the first season of the show? [8D]

                • Saw another episode this morning. Showed the front. Mr. C said he was disappointed in that he bought the new Studebaker and the plant closed a month later.

                    • I just rented the 1986 TV sereies Crime Story from Netflix. It's set in the early 60s so there are plenty of great cars...the hero drives a black Chrysler 300 convertible.
In the 2-hour pilot episode a bad guy drives a metalic medium green Hawk Coupe with white fins.
I think it's post-57 judging by the fin trim but I'm no expert. Several good shots of the car.

UPDATE:It appears in a few subsequent episodes as well. It has a white painted area on the hood just in front of the windshield, kind of like a racing stripe but it doesn't go all the way to the front of the car.
Anyone know of a car like that that lived in Chicago in the mid 80s?

                      • Did he make the joke about buying a good solid car - that there will always be a Studebaker? It was a reused joke; early in the series when the writers used the joke for the first time, it was about the Cunningham's DeSoto. Reusing jokes = jumping the shark, so to speak...

                        • Here's two sightings I haven't seen mentioned. In the 1964 political thriller "Seven Days in May", Kirk Douglas slowly drives by a parked 62 GT in a night scene. Also, in "The Shawshank Redemption" a white GT Hawk can be seen through the window of the warden's office, just before he shoots himself.

                          • I bought a DVD at Dollar Tree today.
It's called O.C. and Stiggs. It says it was from 1985, written by a couple of National Lampoon's writers. It's a 80's teenage comedy, so it's not for everybody but Hey, it was only $1!
On the dvd cover is a '50 Stude that they called the Gila Monster that's lifted up and has the center of the roof cut out like an early 50's Rambler. It has hydraulics that would lift the body up off the frame and make the suspension go up and down too. [:0]
