What's it really worth?

I only have one picture of it and for some reason I can't download it onto this thread. It's a 1952 4 door Champion Sedan. This guy is selling it for his father-in-law and he wants me to place an ad in our club newsletter. It is a project car with dents and flat tires and he was told it "ran when parked" over 30 years ago.

He seems to think it is worth $8500 and I hate to place the ad with that price on it as I don't thinks it will generate much interest. I sent him an e-mail as I don't have a phone number for him. I'm hoping I can steer him towards a reasonable price for the car.

We have a ton of experts here, how about some ideas on a more reasonable range? My thoughts are a 52 sedan is not a highly collectible model and in a non running condition, needing lots of body work (basically it's in need of a complete restoration) this car will be lucky to bring a grand.

4-door. Champion. dents, flat tires, hasn't run in 30 years. It would bring about $400 as scrap. Maybe less.

Would cost more to restore than value would permit, 'tis a shame. Disassembled and sold as parts would bring greater value but require investment of time, energy and patience.
I have given Studebakers like this to our parts vendors. They have rewarded me with favors in return. Worth more than scrap value to the interested party. "Tis a shame.

Based on your discription alone I would think $850 would be more like it....if that much.

If you want to use my Conestoga as an example, it is in similar condition and I paid $900 for it. Arguably, it is a more desirable model. You might ask him what he is basing his pricing on.

Is he trying to sell it, or is he trying to convince his wife that he's trying to sell it. If the answer is the latter, he's right on target

I talked with him on the phone and he said he was just making a wild guess. I suggested he do a little homework but I shared the quotes in this thread with him so he got a reality check. He said he would call his Father in law and discuss it with him and get back to me before I post the ad. I hated to be the bearer of bad news but I figured I would be doing him no favors by listing the car for sale at $8500.

Jon is this the car in Santa Rosa? and new owner is back east? he called me but have not gotten back yet been to busy with m wife in and out of the hospital, From the sound of things the car would be a scrap price type car, I have a 52 4 door commander with 3 speed and overdrive and it should be going on e-bay next week, will take $1500.00 for it and am sure it is a much better car very little rust either, anyone interested let me know.

$8,500 should buy a nice running 52 4 door. A non running car that needs everything is worth slightly more than scrap if it has a solid body.

The car is in a barn in St Paul Oregon. The one you talk about is a different one.
