  • Matt's wagon is alive !

It took about a hour, 5 gallons of fresh gas, cleaned the sediment bowl, freed the stuck carb plates. The fuel pump is pumping more fuel on the ground than to the carb, almost looks like the body is cracked.
The rear brakes were locked, so we had to drag it across the poor guys lawn. Once it was running, I backed up and the brakes let go enough to get her in the garage. Here's what I know so far:

works: Lights (one headlight bulb is dead)
Turn signals, radio, wipers. power steering.

    Does not work:
Crank up antenna is bent and sticks.
No horn or heater and defroster blower

Matt, call me to see how to proceed from here, you're about $200 in with a new $100 battery and tow bill.

    You'll like this:

    Invoice here:

Way to go JP !!!! The engine really sounds pretty sweet. Was the video the very 1st crank or had you already cranked it up prior to the video?

Someone pinch me. This has gotta be a dream.

I notice that the invoice says the paint is Copper Tone. So much for the name Goldie.

No, I had 10 minutes of sputter/sputter/ cough/cough to go through, than a minute or two of blue smoke before it decided to be a lady. Now it starts like that every time.

Cool. Are those chrome exhaust tips? Might even be a stainless steel exhaust system under there Matt!!! The ends look shiny.

Also, never heard of "hub shells" before (on invoice). Is that what they used to call wheelcovers?

Not only is it alive, but the air cleaner was crawling around on top of the engine as well!

And JDP...I think you enjoy tinkering with these things as much as anybody!

I went though some papers I got with the car and found a owners manual, and the original factory warranty. After looking at the receipts from the 70's forward, they are all consistent with the car having 55,000 thousand miles and just a handful with the last owner in the last 10 years.

Ya think ? Matt's on a budget, so any other work I do will be just entertainment.

JDP, you really seem like a great guy helping out a fellow member.
I may have missed part of this deal, but I am gathering that Matt bought "Penny" sight unseen and you went and picked her up for him and in the mean time got her running for him?

                        Good man.

                        Matt, sweet looking ride there.

Matt was kind enough to not charge me for playing, and he took all the risks. Sort of like playing with your grand kids, knowing you won't be stuck with them for 20 years. Any Studebaker lover could not walk away from a car like that stored under a tarp.

Looks/sounds like Matt is on his way to having the wagon of his dreams!

Also, looks like fall has hit Maryland, and I hear JP is in for a very early snow storm.

I hope Jerry 'n Matt don't get buried in snow! <G>

Possible, slushy one inch accumulation, but I'm close enough to the bay that we should just get rain.
