  • On pic # 2026, the Vermont Interstate opening, the Studebakers are leading the pack! I love it.

    • I have seen some other pictures of the Sears-Allstate Avanti (s?) but never this one:

      • If the date is correct, that is a very good looking seven year old '58 President! Especially for an East Coast car.

Always thought the Sears-Allstate Avanti was a '64 Square light?

That has the '64 front fender badges, but it sure looks like round headlights were airbrushed in, particularly on the right side of the car. Wonder why they'd do that?

Yes, I see what You mean. It also has the '64 parking lamps....This really is a strange photo!

That's a 427-style Cobra body, not a slab sided small (260-289) block. Cobra replicas didn't come along until the 80s....so it might be the real deal. Anyone know when AZ changed plate colors?

There sure are a lot of mid to late 50's Cars in that Pic to be 1965, I am not sure I believe that.

It is most likely the Los Angeles Water and Power Co. or other So. Cal. Utility Co.

And #2001 is in So. Cal. all right in about 1964, but they are watching a Fly-by of one of the local built in Hawthorne, 1940's Northrop Corp. Flying Wings that were ALL cut up in the 1940's, now THAT would be worth stopping to see!

                        • According to Wikipedia, Interstate 91 in Vermont opened in sections from 1958 through 1965. I think Brattleboro must have been one of the first sections opened. Pretty special to have the lead car a brand new Studebaker President! Maybe a nod to President Eisenhower as proponent of the Interstate system?

If the headlights on this 'square light' '64 Avanti were airbrushed out and changed to round.....I sure wonder what Studebakers motivation was to do that?

                            • I doubt that airbrushing was done here. What I am curious about is if they actually ran the car on those tires. I don't think you can run street tires on the salt.

Take a real close look at the right headlamp assembly.
