Search for it in the Studebaker Dealers thread. Lots of pages, there! BP

I am pretty sure Barney's was in Escondido, California. My 1962 GT had some front end work done there back in the day. I think they closed down in the 1970s.

                • I see the truck and the Scotsman (?) in the street photo (#1269) above, but that kinda looks like a Lark beside the truck. Probably isn't because it looks like a new car display for 58, but ?????? Neat photo !

                      • A Vauxhall Victor & 2 Austins in #1269, makes me wonder who would've preferred to drive such slow cars in the states in those days...
(it's kind easy to see that Vauxhall was (is?) a part of GM)

Wow, you know they were turning some eyes as they walked down that street!

Both the Vauxhall Victor and the Austin Cambrian (closest to the camera) were capable of freeway speeds here. Likewise the Hillman Minx next to the Scotsman. All of them topped out at about 75 mph or about 120 kph. The A35 next to the Cambrian could get to 60, but it would have been a challenge keeping it there. The same would apply to the Hillman Husky next to the Minx.

When those cars were new our family car was a Cambrian. At that time the Trans Canada "Highway" here was a narrow winding two lane road with a speed limit of 50 mph (80 kph) well within the car's limit.

Take a look at the Minx. Raymond Loewy designed it. Do you see the Studebaker influence?

                              • What happened to #1269???

& yeah, as said before: late 50's Hillman, Singer & Sunbeam were designed by the same sweet guy who did Studebaker, but if you ever looked inside one you wonder what they thought about there...
