Both the Vauxhall Victor and the Austin Cambrian (closest to the camera) were capable of freeway speeds here. Likewise the Hillman Minx next to the Scotsman. All of them topped out at about 75 mph or about 120 kph. The A35 next to the Cambrian could get to 60, but it would have been a challenge keeping it there. When those cars were new our family car was a Cambrian. At that time the Trans Canada "Highway" here was a narrow winding two lane road with a speed limit of 50 mph (80 kph) well within the car's limit.
Take a look at the Minx. Raymond Loewy designed it. Do you see the Studebaker influence?
