Important individual (want to say local doctor, etc) with what looks to be a pretty new 1950 Landcruiser - on the side of the highway between Johnson City and Blanco, Texas - Portals of Texas History website.

If this were in California that could have been my grandfather. He commuted from Whittier, just east of Los Angeles, to China Lake Naval Weapons Station in his '50 Land Cruiser every week during my childhood, to maintain both his marriage and the air conditioning equipment at the desert installation. To the best of my knowledge it never let him down. When he died in 1970 my father sold the car for $150. I was fourteen at the time and didn't talk to the old man again until I moved out to join the Navy.

Ref. post 12052 that mentioned the Packard woody. The California Automobile Museum, Sacramento, California, has a late 40s Packard woody on display in a special display of woodies for the next couple months.Perry
