McLoon Lobster Shack is located in South Thomaston, Maine. so that may be the location of this photo. The Studebaker and the two Dodges have Maine taxi license plates (H), 1950 plates with either 1951 or 1952 date tags.

Probably a For Sale piece from the 2019 event.
Anyone know any more about it? BP

                Bob,

I think I know where you are coming at this as should be in Cars for sale section. It might be if there was a sign on the car "For Sale" with contact information. Yet, no sign, a supposition, and a cold contact trail after 2 years.

                Thanks for your input.

I thought about that, Bob...but without a For Sale sign or contact information, I don't know what good it would have done to place it there...besides, I don't know if the car is (or was) for sale in the first place...which is why I said it was probably for sale. BP

What would possess someone to tie a car down like that? Smashed fins and dented hood would be the result.

Fortunately, it's the wrong hood anyway.

                    • Not exactly in Roadside Americana, but I recognized this quote from a recent Stellantis production report. How many times did I painfully read those exact words back in 1963 and 1964, watching Studebaker die?

"Stellantis NV is cutting almost 1,700 jobs at its Jeep Cherokee plant in Illinois, the transatlantic automaker said Friday...

The automaker is reducing shifts at Belvidere Assembly Plant from two to one by July 26. The move, which seeks to "balance sales with production," will indefinitely lay off 1,641 employees making the compact crossover, Stellantis spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in a statement.....

                      • The last active Bonnie Doon drive-in, on Lincolnway in South Bend, IN, is a part of roadside America. I've started a facebook group: Bonnie Doon and Studebaker Memories. hoping people will share their Bonnie Doon, Studebaker, and South Bend nostalgia. Bonnie Doon and Studebaker Memories | Facebook

It looks like a 1947 California plate and her Studebaker might be the newest car in the lot, so I'll bet it's one of the first ones in the neighborhood. (That LR wheel sure looks rusty, though!)

Might it have been assembled in the Vernon CA plant? I'm not sure when they ramped up immediate postwar assembly. BP

                          • No Studes, but at least a 1956 Packard in the Shell service station parking lot, a product of the then Studebaker-Packard Corporation. And an earlier 1953-1954 Packard next to it:

                            • How I would love to step into these old pictures and spend a little time in that (admittedly idealized) era. The cars are just one of the reasons.

Great photos. I always see the cars first, but then I take a minute or two to enjoy every detail, free of any negative aspects of the time.

                              • When I first saw the gas prices, I thought maybe all those cars were for a movie setting. Then I looked closer and saw the decimal point so it was 28.9 and 31.9 instead of today's 289 and 319. English Ford a rare sight.
