Fast-forward to 1989 when the International Meet was held in South Bend, I recall one could have a steak dinner for $4.95, or wait until midnight, and the price dropped to $3.95. And an all-you-can-eat breakfast was $1.99.

But as Bob M says, those days of inexpensive food are now gone!

      • It must have been rare that an eighteen or nineteen year old car was in use in 1951. Most people after WW2 could not wait to get their hands on a new car. I have seen the picture several times on TV. Great picture, great stars, great director Robert Wise, who was born in Winchester, Indiana.

Looks like the RH fender light lens is gone.

But check out the car in the background: It appears to be a Kaiser convertible! You can see the little rectangular chrome-framed filler window that replaced the B-pillar. A silly arrangement (but necessary), and it was removable when the top was down.

Good catch! Looks like the photo could be titled "Four orphans lost in the city" Desoto, Kaiser, Oldsmobile, and Studebaker. At least in todays world.

                    • This car is believed to be a Studebaker Garford. Could someone please confirm or correct this?

The picture was taken about 1908 in Chatham (now Miramichi), New Brunswick, Canada.

It is not the convertible, but the faux 'hardtop', looking at the size of the rear window. The convertible had a much smaller window

                        • As I've seen non-American Studebaker photos here before I thought I show you this one now...

                            • From the Sunday, February 14, 2021 Old Motor: (And what's the big 1930s car on the far left? Also, look straight back to the fourth row behind the light blue 1964 Fairlane next to the Wagonaire, the white car with a dark roof and no grill, could that be a 1955-1956 Packard or Clipper?)
