11251 -- Would the manual floor shift be a way of getting the price of a police car as low as possible? I don't remember seeing or hearing of one in a Studebaker in Canada. Is there any other reason it would be specified?

Check out the middle row of cars, those headed toward us. About halfway back, hugging the right side of the road near a couple of large rocks behind the 1972(?) Ford pickup truck, could that be a white 1963 Wagonaire? BP

11253 --- Craig, thanks very much for posting the photos. Very interesting! No doubt all the heavy duty equipment would be useful in Powell River in the mid-1960s, especially in a taxi.

11254 --- Another very interesting photo, Bob. I would not want to be crawling in that line-up! What possibly could go wrong?? Someone riding the clutch? A slipping automatic? Overheating? On the return trip, brakes, especially with an automatic transmission? Do you know the location --- could it be Mount Washington, New Hampshire?

According to The Old Motor, the scene is Grandfather Mountain, just east of Linville NC. A fall foliage tour that was popular for many years, per the information they supplied with the photo. BP

When the fall colors begin to come out in the mountains of North Carolina, traffic can be a problem. Also finding lodging can also be a problem. It is a popular place during that part of the year.

But one can hardly ask for a more beautiful drive than along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I took my Chrysler Lebaron convertible up there about 18 years ago, and I hope to cruise it in a Studebaker before too long.

I see the tail of a black(?) 1963 Lark far left, about the center of the photo. It looks like it has a white right door, so it might be some sort of fleet vehicle.

This one is of special interest to me. It’s in the village of Mexico, NY, where I grew up. I still live nearby. It opened in 1936. I bought gas there many times until it closed in the late 90s. 20 years ago it was remodeled into a restaurant called Daddy Ed’s and is still going strong. I ate there just last week.

A long time Studebaker Dealer retired lived in Greeley, CO. In his retirement years he started rescuing "old cars". He lived west of town. One day he got in an argument with a fellow who wanted to buy one of his cars. He suffered a Stroke and died. I wandered through his collection before the auction. I do not recall what year the photos were taken, maybe 1980's.

Much more likely to make quick shifts smooth during pursuit. Column-mounted manuals on both my grandfather's Land Cruiser and my dad's Champion both used to catch and bind in the 1-2 change during quick shifts in particular, but sometimes even in lazy traffic. Police officers racing after baddies don't have the time to stop, get out, jiggle the rods, get back in, and take off.
