This is someone's personal photo submitted to the Traces of Texas Facebook page. Caption stated it was taken in Lubbock, Texas - Easter, 1958 (or 1960). That was the first year for Texas to go black and white with their license plates - alternating from year to year - through 1969.

I was never sure if a personal Studebaker was qualified for Studes in Roadside Ameracana or not, but I finally decided to mention my first Studebaker, a '61 Cruiser. This double picture was of us arriving at our rented house in September 1962 after driving approximately 1500 miles in two days from Quonset Point, RI to Gardner, KS. The right hand reclining seat was made in to a bed to accommodate my wife and five-day old son.

I remember the article you wrote years ago in Turning Wheels about that car and your drive. Must have been an adventure with a 5 day old son and your understanding wife!

That Hawk sure is a flower among the thorns when it comes to the design of that car.

Waco, Texas' famous Elite Cafe. Four hard working Greek immigrant brothers bought the original cafe in 1919 and made it famous. They opened this location on a busy traffic circle in the south side of town in 1941. They closed the downtown location after the devastating 1952 tornado. Was a favorite stopping point for people traveling the Austin to Dallas corridor and was patronized by Elvis while stationed at Ft. Hood. Photo from Traces of Texas Facebook page.

Maybe the only time and picture extant that Packard,Nash,Hudson and Studebaker were together. Sure didn't work out in 1954. Maybe if talks had been fruitful in 1948 that George Mason wanted we could go to our local dealer and get a new car. Realistically probably not.
