  • New York likely, now that I think about where I found the photo

    • Cannot ID the plate on the 300SL from the little corner that shows. Am thinking maybe Italy. From a movie maybe?

        • Speaking of cameos, are we sure McQueen isn't backing up
          to a Lowry?

            • Unsure about the point of the photo of the NY Central streamliner going by the Stude factory -- but Raymond Loewy did not do the styling of the pictured 4-6-4 Hudson locomotive. That class of engines had been styled by Henry Dreyfuss. Loewy styled locomotives for rival Pennsylvania RR.

              • I have that Dreyfuss photo in black & white, but with a slightly different cropping.
Mine shows a bit more track in the foreground.
Thinking that this one has been colorized?
Mr. Quinn probably knows the answer.

                • Yes, it has been colorized. Only one image was ever taken from this angle at this time so yes it has been cropped.

                  • Richard,
Thanks for confirming; that was my impression based upon what Carl Thompson wrote years ago in a letter to the TW.

                    • Pulled off Facebook group that posts photos from Texas history. Restaurant is supposed to be in Corpus Christi, 1940 (would need to be Fall - President is a '41 model). Guess the eating place also had a marching band...

                      • Clearly photo of the same drive-in as in 11126. Location is Corpus Christi, Texas - Traces of Texas Facebook page.

Looks to like it might be a '35 Dictator/Commander. I wonder what was added to the bar-b-que sandwich to make it a plate - had to fork over another dime!

                          1952 Commander 2 door. Really fine 259.

                          • I believe it is either a 1935 Dictator or Commander.

Thanks Bob - will change the entry to reflect that.

This is Bellaire, Texas (Houston). The information from the photo stated it was in 1959. Probably a new shopping center. Looks like there might be as many as three Studebakers in the lot...
