I suspect that 'big fat Buick' is in line waiting to exit. Of course we can't see the actual exit onto the street as its not visible in the photo, but it appears to be the only way in and out of that parking lot.

    • I can’t agree on the ID of the car behind the light colored car between the lightposts. I really don’t see a bullet nose and the “eyebrows” that are on the leading edge of a ‘50 Studebaker should be higher than what appears in this photo. The script that is on the front edge of a ‘51 hood would also be higher and not as bright as shown.

        • Photo from August of 1936 - garment workers being moved to jobs in rural areas of New Jersey - guess this company moved everything... This was a New Deal program to try and get industry less centered in urban areas.

                          • From today's Hemmings Blog. 1957 Champion or Commander DeLuxe almost dead center, right above the 1963 Falcon, no?

                              Nice!
Several years ago (2012?) my son spent a semester at Monash Univ. in Melbourne.
He attended both the AU Gran Prix, AND the Studebaker meet in Ballarat.

                              • That's very interesting, I grew up very close to Monash University,
Melbourne has a fairly strong Studebaker presence, there were lots of Stude's delivered to Australia in the 60's,
already right hand drive, the Larks were also a very successful race car in the famous Bathurst race,
I now live in NSW, & have only just purchased a '61 Hawk, so back into the much loved Stude's again,Click image for larger version
