After enlarging, I am curious as to the purpose of the two leather belts that seem to go around the chassis, springs, axle, and front fender attachment points? And...what's in the box on the running board?
I have seen similar set ups on other cars of the era. I have always assumed those leather straps were to limit the suspension.

Right, Joe: I've read enough accounts of those straps on different cars to agree; they limit suspension travel.

The box on the running board could be storage for just about anything. BP

          • At least 4 Studebakers there. Did I miss any?

            • I count 5 in # 9514. Second car to the right of the '55 along the right edge of the parking lot. It looks to be a Conestoga wagon.

              • #9514 shows the Library of Congress, Washington, DC. The ~1950 Ford at lower right is a Diamond taxicab. They used that tan/black with a red stripe color scheme until last year, when all DC cabs were required to adopt the same color scheme.

I didn't mark that one because I thought it might be a Ford wagon.

                          • In #9520, is the dark car coming at us a '41 Comm/Pres?
That would be 195(0/1?) and 1941 in the same frame!

...and I think that may be in St. Louis; Watson Road (Old 66) at Lindbergh (61/67)?
