Post #9391...I suggest this is not your average parking lot gathering of the era. Gotta be a rather "well heeled" grouping of automobile enthusiasts. More Vettes than Studebakers. Not only, rather expensive, specialty cars of the day, but trendy fad cars like the mini '48 Mercury looking Volvo, VW Beetles, early T Birds, Jaguars, Alphas, MGs, Austins, etc.

Way back in the background appears to be either a race track or test track. Whether a work environment, or an entertainment venue...this picture makes me think these folks are not representative of a "paycheck to paycheck" EBT card holding Walmart bargain hunting crowd.

OH...'cept for one CASO who somehow slipped in with his Studebaker station wagon.

        • Another interesting thing about Post #9391:

Note that, with but a few exceptions, all the foreign and sports cars (i.e., Corvettes, except the one up front) are parked facing us, where as what would be deemed domestic makes are parked in the opposite direction. Strange! (It's not universal, though; there's a 1958 Chevrolet pointed at us toward the rear, for example, but the generalization holds true.) BP

I'm thinking Watkins Glen. Lots of sports car folks would drive their cars to the races and the parking spaces were a real show. "Special Interest autos". (Now re-named "Hemmings Classic Car") in years past had photo essays of the classic cars all driven to and parked on the streets of Watkins Glen. Think Bugattis, Duesenbergs, etc.
