Post #9009...terrifying to me. Considering the style of the carrier, this looks like a correct period pic, But, similar rigs are still plying the highways. Several years ago, while traveling, I decided to drop in on a fellow SDC member. Not long after I arrived, a transport showed up to load up a mid 1950’s Studebaker sedan he had sold on eBay.



The rig was one of those straight up ramp style trailers usually seen being pulled by a big heavy dually pickup truck. The driver turns out to be Hispanic with very little English language skills. After several minutes of him and my friend attempting to communicate, it finally became obvious that the driver was not going to be the one to drive the Studebaker up those ramps.



Finally, our fellow SDC member (will not divulge his name without permission), got in the car, aimed it at the ramps, gunned the engine and took off! Nearly drove it off the other end.

Before the transporter showed up, we had just been discussing the suspect brakes. Like anything you have very little experience in doing, it often looks easy until you have to do it.

The transporter looked similar to the one pictured below, only beat up and very road worn.

Hard to tell. It does look like it could be a horned owl.
