I would bet (judging by the grin on his face as well as his posture) somebody just got his first car. Regardless of how old it was and how many flaws it had, he sure looks quite proud! Lucky kid, probably lucky parents too.

    • Land Cruiser? Can't tell if it's a tree branch or a rear door vent window frame.

                'Great photo, Joe; thanks.

Any idea where or when it was taken? There are two 1967 Chevrolet Impalas in that photo, the newest cars to be had, so that dates it somewhat. BP

I found this on one of the H.A.M.B. threads that I follow. It had no explanation as to the time or place. Like you I saw the '67 Impalas and dated it that way. I naturally loved to be able to find a Studebaker among some very interesting cars, but the idea of seeing two Oldsmobile station wagons, several Angulas, a '59 Chevy sedan panel and several other wagons in the staging lanes made the picture even more attractive.

                      • Hey Joe and Bob P., the drag race staging lanes photo is on F-Book too, and is credited as the 1967 NHRA Nationals from the Peterson Archives and says it is from Bristol, Tn. I was there that year and others, but sure thought Jim Tice and crew still managed Bristol in 67 ...(AHRA or IHRA ? )

                          Thanks, John.

The Peterson Museum archives must have it wrong, because the 1967 NHRA National Championship Drag Race was held at Indianapolis Raceway Park, not Bristol TN.

Could this be the AHRA or IHRA National Drags, as you suggest? I do not know where those events were held. BP

                          • Yes Bob, I think that is right too, only thing I couldn't remember was if we were IHRA or AHRA that year. I'm shy about making absolute statements on here, there are several "sharp-shooters" that may "know better", ha !! I looked at some of my old photos, but have none that shows the tower where Jim's sign was. Now, all we have left to do is contact Bruce Meyers and company at the Peterson and straighten them out, ha !
