Now here's a Pop Quiz: What fleet option is shown on that car that would not be on a regular "civilian" car for normal, individual, retail sales?

(Other than the light on the roof, of course). BP
Outside hood release, or unless you know it has a 289 under the hood.

BINGO! (You're right, Craig, a later-production 1960 Lark police car could have a 289, but we wouldn't be able to see that in the photo, of course.) BP

AFAIK, Dave; that wouldn't have been a factory idea (fleet option), although certainly a valid observation.

Craig Parslow found it; the hole in the upper center of the grille for the fleet-option external hood release. Again AFAIK, that wasn't available to "ordinary" retail customers...not that somebody couldn't have ordered it if they wanted to, I suppose. BP

          Thanks, Bob,

And my edumacated guess as why it could have a 289 is because, as you stated, NO RUST for a year-old Illinois car, which means it may have been ordered in the spring/summer of 1960 when the 289 was made available. If so, it would have only seen one brutal winter, and not two if it was ordered early in the model year.

                              • Yours truly is in this picture from 1962 .
We were headed to The 12 Hours of Sebring , and broke an oil line
to the filter , or the gauge ( foggy memory) at about 20 miles west of Daytona on the yet unopened stretch of I-4 , so we hoofed it to the next
                                road west and got help.
