  • BTW: Notrice how clean the Boston church is now...a good steam cleaning and less coal smoke/soot does wonders.
You see the same effect in London if you compare old photos.

    • To Gary Ash,
That is a cool update photo that the building is still there. Thanks for posting that. It is so nice that the UGLY old decorative building to its right got tore down and replaced with that beautiful smooth flat shiny modern glass building....that is sarcasim of course!
For quite a few years I was in earthquake retro fitting of historic building. It was very satisfying to go into some old brick or unreinforced concrete building from the turn of the century era and restore it to a safe and useable building. We worked from LA to San Diego. We had the city contract and did all of the original firehouses in LA. Very neat old red brick buildings that were destined to be considered unsafe and demolished until we bid on the retrofit of reinforced Shotcrete inner walls to make the brick exterior more of a facade that the structure.

We also did alot of the historic bridges in LA like the 4th St bridge that is in so many car commercials. One of my favorite buildings we restored and rehtrofitted was the San Diego Bank and Trust building on 5th and Broadway next to the Gas Lamp district. It became a Marriot Hotel something, but the kept all of the beautiful interior woodwork a dark imported Mahogany and all of the ornate exterior. I was very proud to be apart of that saving of history since the building was built circa 1919.
We also did the remodel and restoration of the Griffith Park Observatory. That was a very COOL job. Long drive everyday for me, but rewarding. For any who dont know of that building, google or wiki it. It has been in literally dozens of movies including Rebel Without a Cause, Charlies Angels, Yes Man, and many more. Cool stuff for me to work on a building built in 1933. I told my wife I loved her for the first time out on the back stoop of GPO back in 1986, so to be a part of restoring that building was an honor....
sorry for any hi-jack here, just thought I may share what little history I have.

            • Intersection of U.S. 2 and Vermont Hwy 18 in Waterford, VT. The old motel/houses are still there, but the Lark seems to be missing. U.S. 2 is the northernmost U.S. numbered highway, goes from Houlton, Maine to Washington state with a gap around the Great Lakes. But, I think I found the Google StreetView image of the correct intersection.

Yep, that photo appears to have been taken later in the selling season. Bahama Blue was a Spring Color for '59. Was that the color of yours?
