I figured someone would do this, that's why I posted the address.

There's a long time indie bookstore several blocks west that I visit every coupla months, so I knew the building was extant.

Here's another former Packard dealer you can Google: Simonson-Schactmayer @ 1626 Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica.

Same location since 1937, now it's W. I. Simonson Mercedes-Benz. The only change is that it now says Mercedes-Benz over the front entrance, it used to say Packard.

Studebaker was added in 1955 after the former dealer located 2 blocks west closed. After it closed, building became Vic Tanny Gym, now that's gone and so is the building.

No, why don't you Google it - since you "figured" someone one would do it. I'll leave the next one to you.

I thought people would be interested in seeing the building today since it was mentioned. Geez....

      • I have not been able to post pictures (except for the avatar) on this website.

Geez Louise, if I hadn't posted the address, would you have been able to Google it? Prolly not since there wasn't any location given.

        • Of course WinM1985, an address is needed; that's a given. It's just something about your post that came across as a little abrasive - that someone googling and posting a picture of the building today was "predictable" behavior, which, actually it is. I just didn't see a need for your particular remark. How about a "that's interesting" or "thank you"?

Your statement of not being able to post pictures with the exception of your avatar makes things so much clearer now as to why you couldn't, and didn't, do this yourself. Who was to know??

Perhaps if I had read this post on a day that was not spent dealing with a rowdy bunch of fourth graders, I would have taken it a little differently.

But enough said - I still wish I could go back and purchase new '55/56/57/58 Packards.

The architecture is known as Spanish Colonial Mission Revival with Churrigueresque details.

Similar buildings were erected in Balboa Park in San Diego for the 1915 Panama-California International Exhibition.

The last car dealer that used this building sold replica Auburn Speedsters (that used Ford Galaxie/LTD frames and powertrains).
Actually, California Classic Cars (builder of Auburn repos and dealer of grey market imports) followed the old Mazda dealer and was followed by an Acura dealer. The Acura dealer left in the mis 90's, if I'm not mistaken. Currently there is a book store occupying this location and the old book store several blocks west was Cliff's which just closed a couple of months ago.

This photo is actually a painting isn't it?

                • That Noll Auto Co. is the most beautiful photo of late Packards I've ever seen. Very cool to see that the building still exists largely intact. Anyone know where I can get a bigger size for my PC wallpaper??

And further in the background looking right at us is a c.58-60 Mercury truck. Always an interesting sight for us U.S. citizens.
