        • Who wouldn't want to go camping with this 1940 Studebaker Custom by Coachcraft?

          • Boy, the property in 2419 sure looks forlorn, Joe. Part of the signage intentionally removed from the building, etc.

At least they still have one rack of oil outside, so I guess they are open for business a little while longer. BP.

Yep, I noticed that the station almost looks abandoned. Not much action around there it seems.

Joe, have you ever heard the song White Rose from Toby Keith's album, Big Dog Daddy?

                Here it is:

Actor Preston Foster (pictured) had it made by Coachcraft Ltd. Coachcraft founded by Rudy Stoessel, a former employee of custom body maker Bowman & Schwartz of Pasadena.

Coachcraft for many years was located on Robertson Blvd, just east of Beverly Hills. Besides custom body work, they specialized in roof racks for 'woody' station wagons & Chrysler Town & Country sedans.

I used to drop by every now and then to see what they were working on.

btw: This car has disappeared, no one seems to know what happened to it. Like the "Topper" Buick (a Bowman & Schwartz creation made for the 1937 film), it's dropped from sight.

                    • Please note that (at least in factory promo shots) not all 1942 Skyway Landcruisers had WW tires and fog lights!
                      ...and for that matter radios?

Bob, I think you have hit the nail right square on the head with that song.

                          • I found this. It's not a roadside one, but it is the centre of attention.

                            • #2416 there is a sign on the side of the station that says Vermont Truck Stop, #2419 there is a sign next to the station "Information Lake Champlain Ferries". I believe both of these photos was taken by Don Weidemeyer longtime photographer for the VT Highway Department. The white numbers on the photos are one of his trademarks. He recently passed away at the age of 96.

I believe the location for #2419 may be along US 2 in South Burlington, VT and was taken in advance of the construction of Interstate I-89 through this area, thus the reason for the closure of the gas station. It was going to be torn down.

                              • Thanks for the information in Post #2430, Don; it is interesting to have such background info when so little is known about most of these photos. BP
