I was looking for old gas station pictures and found this at a site about Elmo "Jack" Elder. It is basically a family genealogy. I found this picture there of Mr. Elder working at this Phillips 66 Station. http://www.american-indian-artwork.com/grandfather.htm

How about the license plate configuration on the front of the Lark, Craig, and the "Mounty's" uniform. Are those further clues as to it's being Canadian? BP

                      • Ebay link to a postcard, ca. 1964, of Main St. in Greenville, PA, my hometown. Squint to find the Studebaker!

As mentioned here many times by me, we had a Studebaker dealer under one-family ownership for over 40 years (1926-68), the Carl E. Filer Co.

                        Population in 1960 was 8,800.

The J.C. Penney building is now a coffee shop and sometimes music-house, run by the ministerial association in town. All remnants of the old Penney's are gone inside, and it looks very neat but historic in and out. Our class meets there the first Saturday of the month for those who still live in the area or who might be in town. We sit in a seating area in the front windows and reminisce and solve world problems!

                              • She's a Winner!

"On October 2, 1939, Clara Thorsen is receiving the title from an unidentified member of the Ray Roberts Post 969 VFW for the new 1939 Studebaker Champion that she won. On winning, Miss Thorsen confided to the members that she is to be married the following month to Earl Heltsley, a driver for the Municipal Belt Bus Line. The pair will use the new vehicle to take a honeymoon trip to California. Allen Motor Co. building in background. Studebaker logo on storefront windows. Miss Thorsen is 24 years old and resides at 3623 McKinley Ave. She is a clerk at Fishers Department Store."

Caption from the Tacoma Times October 5, 1939. It was found on line at the Tacoma Public Library archives. The picture was sound there as well, but I found it on the H.A.M.B. .
