Radio delete plate photo req'd

Can some one provide a photo of a chrome radio delete plate for a 53 or 54 Champion coupe? I have decided to remove my radio and need to know if I'm going to fabricate a custom plate or use a factory one. Thanks, Junior.

Do you know if it is the same as a 55 Champion? If so I can take a picture of one for you.

wow, that was quick Ann...as far as I can gather, the '55 is different because it is painted and not chromed. I'm not sure if there are any other differences so hold off on the photo for now. Thanks, Junior.

This is the one off of Bobby's Champion. Since you thought that they were painted I thought I would post this picture anyhow. Just in case.
The last picture shows a number that is on the back. 308837 I think.

Thanks Ann and Dave. It looks like its going to have to be a 53 or 54 Champion plate. Does anyone have a good 53 or 54 plate for sale or trade?? The chrome does not need to be show quality, but I really don't want any pits. All the chrome on my dash is pit-free, but has plenty of micro-scratches on from years of cleaning with (I assume) dry cloths. Does anyone know what symbol/logo the later 53 or 54 delete plate has on it? Once again, thanks for any info. Junior

I just brought a complete set of dash chrome down from the barn the other day to take pictures of and sell on eBay.
I took this off of a 53 Champion Sedan in a wrecking yard years ago. Also have a complete set of inside handles plus escutions.......very nice! (4 window 2 door)
I will take the pictures and e-mail them directly to you.

I have some dealer take-off plates somewhere. If you don't find a better response, send me a PM and I'll look harder. I know the '53 plates had the Tri-Star, but I think the '54s just had the Studebaker name on them.

Looks like you are going to find what you need... those original delete plates are really neat!

Mine went missing before I bought the car, and since I had to rebuild the instrument cluster area of my dash anyway, I custom made a delete plate:



I always intended to put some of the Xtra accessory switchs in the blanks where the channel select buttons were to have been, but never got around to it. Hope you find a slick original, but if'n ya don't, here's an option for you to consider.

Thanks for the responses, I need to decide what to do here...first I was thinking about making my own delete plate out of milled aluminum, then I wanted the factory delete plate which Brian Woods has, then I read the parts catalog and as far as I can see, the sedan's plate no. is different from the c/k plate no. and then Dave re-inspires me with a home-brewed one again. I need to think this over again...I still like the ease of a factory plate but now it's kinda bugging me that Studebaker cast the dumb R-A-I-D-O buttons in there. What to do, What to do.
