  • Two-Day 20% Discount at Lulu.com

Lulu.com is offering a 20% discount through Thursday, February 3rd. I just got this missive as an existing customer:

Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring, having not seen his shadow. Enter coupon code NOSHADOW305 at checkout and receive 20% off your order. The maximum savings for this coupon is $100. Offer good towards print costs only - shipping and tax amounts are excluded. You can only use the code once per account, and you can't use this coupon in combination with other coupon codes. This great offer ends on February 3, 2011 at 11:59 PM so try not to procrastinate! While very unlikely we do reserve the right to change or revoke this offer at anytime, and of course we cannot offer this coupon where it is against the law to do so.

Lulu.com is the distributor for Jan Young's excellent Precision Systems Index of Turning Wheels' contents. I've never seen it on sale before, so now would be an excellent time to buy one while it is available at 20% off. (The e-mail I received encouraged me to "e-mail this to a friend," so that's what I am doing. Thus, the discount must be available to everyone, not just the person to whom the announcement was sent.)

Here's information on Volume One. Volume Two is also available through Lulu:

I cannot recommend these references too highly. BP

Thanks for sharing this, Bob! I've always meant to get the index, and this might be the time to do it!

One bone with Lulu- I went through the ordering process with the cart, registered, entered info, then went to checkout. Then, when it came time to select shipping method, they only list one USPS (cheapo) and three UPS choices. I have poor UPS service here, and the price is too high anyway- $8.99 for the cheapest service I could get Priority Mail cheaper and better, but they don't offer it. So I tried to write about it but they don't give a way to contact them directly except for on subjects THEY choose.

I guess I have until tomorrow to decide whether to order or not. Might just pass rather than dance around with UPS on something like a book.

      THANKS BOB!!

Discount worked. Ordered up both volumes of the TW index -which I've been wanting to do for years, 20% was good enough for this CASO to get my rear in gear. I also ordered two other books. Great stuff.

FYI: be sure you put the right version in the cart. Some books can be ordered digital or paper (digital download is cheaper if you like that). So be sure to correctly choose the one you want.

Is there another source for the index? Not only do they not offer Priority Mail service, they're trying to charge me sales tax, even though I'm not a NC resident

Not that the cost is the issue, it's the principal!

If not I'll hold my nose and order it, just would prefer to be treated fairly if possible.

'Not that I know of, Bob; there's no other source besides Lulu.

But there is an upside: I've purchased a new Precision Systems Turning Wheels Index (or Index Supplement) from Jan Young every year almost since the publication's inception, it is so good. (I then donated the previous year's index to our SDC Indy Chapter's White Elephant Auction we hold every February to help raise money, so someone usually got all but the current year index for just a few dollars.)

Anyway, until Jan contracted with self-publisher Lulu (also known as a vanity publisher in the publishing business), he was printing the publication at his print shop. "Binding," such as it was, was simply placing individual sheets in a three-ring notebook like you used to turn in your science project in high school.

The quality was OK, but nowhere near as good as it is now that Lulu is doing it. The type and pages are much brighter and the publication(s) arrive bound in a slick, 4-color cover that is so much nicer than it used to be...yet the price is unchanged, for all practical purposes, from when Jan did it by himself.

Kind of a win-win, if you ask me....and having an index makes an entire collection of Turning Wheels so much more useful and interesting. BP

Complete Turning Wheels collections aren't that hard to come by, Ron. Wasn't one offered here on the forum for just the price of the postage to send it only a few days ago? BP

Often available for the price of postage (not insignificant) or free if picked up. Worth noting: a thirty-year collection of TW is greatly devalued with the lack of an index.

I did not see any options, they are all Paper Backed or downloadable PDF Files (Electronic Copies).

There is Book 1 and Book 2 though.
