The '50 Commander has a 245.6 cubic inch six that was rated at 102 HP at 3200 rpm. The wheelbase is 120 inches.

The pickups of that vintage/style came with either a flathead six or an OHV V-8. I have owned three '58-'59 pickups that were all V-8s, both stock and modified. If the 1957 has a six, it is either the 170 cubic inch flathead or the 245 cubic inch flathead. If it is a V-8, it should be a 259 cubic inch OHV.

quote:What color is that? I was thinking of doing this oen in Viper red.
The truck is Guards, or Porshe red. The car is '98 Chrysler Candy Apple red.

quote:I have to ask, why the 350 CHEBBY motor. The one I am trying to get is a little /6. What could come in a 57 Studebaker truck. Any V8s?
Both the car and truck already had the Ch**vy engines in them when I bought them. I'd be proud to have Stude engines under the hoods, but not proud enough to change anything until the 350s crater.

quote:If I get this truck and the motor is shot. Should I go with something in the Stude line or something else. And if I ahve to go with something else-------IT CANT BE A FERD OR CHEBBY. Would, say a 5.7 HEMI fit into it OK. Maybe a 6.1 or even a EFI 360?
I know just how you feel. I would go with Stude power, if I were able to. Stude offered the 289, and I believe the 259 V8s in the trucks. Like you, I would install a Mopar engine before I would the "other" two.

That 245 BIG Six is one tough engine, the same as that of my 51 2R16 dump truck. It'll haul a load of wet set all day long... (And still pull anything out of the mud!)
