I know mine is not a Regal...it is definitely a "Deluxe", mid-range model for the Commander. Just curious about the steering wheel, since I've had more than a couple comments on it. My body tag: 16G8-W4, 7976

It's probably the difference between Deluxe trim and Regal trim. If it's a three spoke wheel I think that would be correct. If you happen to have a two spoke wheel all bets are off. I have been trying to remember all the iterations on the 55's that I've owned, and it's not easy! I don't remember ever seeing a two spoke wheel on a 55. Today who knows what someone might have put on a car over the last 6+ decades.

Your steering wheel is correct for a deluxe trim car. The Regal wheel is different. You could search the forum as we had a lengthy steering wheel thread some months ago. Unfortunately, some of the same questions come up from time to time.

There were in 1955 4 model designations: Custom, Deluxe, Regal and State. The Speedster was a model in and of itself. It had the highest level of K7 as far as trim The President was listed as a State, but I believe at the beginning of the model year, the President could be had at the lower Deluxe version. As I recall, it was a poor seller with only around 1,000 cars sold, possibly to fleet buyers.

One of our members has a 55 Champion that was his grandfathers car. I knew his grandfather and got the car for $100.00. It had/has painted headlight rims. His other 55 Champion is a Regal two tone with the "butter knife" trim.

As you can see by the attached chart they list the models. Mark, for no charge, they can tell you how many 4 door Deluxe 1955 models were made.

I've owned a 52 Champion for 25 years now, so of course I know that emblem.
I've got to admit though, I've never understood there was some sort of connection between 'crown' and 'champion'! To me it was just an emblem. Never thought much about it I guess.
A champion crown. I'll be darned.

As StudeRich stated, Hamilton-assembled Studebakers had an emblem in the shape of a maple leaf on the dash, be it the glove compartment door, or radio speaker grille(or delete plate on 1958 Scotsmans), depending on the year.
