Put a Chevy in your Stude...

I got this Hurst type saddle mount in a parts deal recently. It's new and identical to the ones that Hurst marketed in the late 50's. It mounts the engine off the front like 55-58 Chevy's did.

It looks nice, thing I don't like about them is you can't run the stock fuel pump and on C's and K's you have to butcher the back half of the motor mount or grind down the rivets remove the mount and use the bolt on Lark and Avanti type and then you might have to space the engine up a little since the Lark type mounts are about 1 1/2" shorter, height wise.

Yep...ANY engine swap is going to require some compromises.

Remember to check that V8 to see if it has holes in the front of the block.Later engines had holes in one side only.Also,IMHO,If you can use mounts that bolt on to the side of the engine so they don't rock with the torque. Or a good torque strap would do

I have a big block Chevrolet mounted in my 51 Champion. I used the stock Studebaker frame mounts and made a pair of engine mounts to use the round biscuit insulators. I was suprised that it was easy. I also had to clear the center steer rack that I had mounted. Slight modification to the firewall was required, but if it had been a small block chevy it would have dropped right in. Anything is possible in these cars.

This brings back memories. I ordered one of these when I was in college. I used it to install a 327 Corvette engine in my 62 GT Hawk.

The sad part was that I left my 40,000 mile 289 Stude engine in my friend's garage, where we did the swap, and never went back to get it. They don't live there anymore, but I went back a few years ago and it was gone.

And the answer is no but I had a Pontolet once.

Yea, I think you are right, Claude. '58's still had the staggered valve cover hold down bolts, but did have the side motor mounts.

Well, for a Stocker, the engine that's supposed to be there is the stock Studebaker engine. For a Hot Rodder, the stock engine ISN'T supposed to be there. .
