Hi, being somewhat new to studebakers maybe some of you guys could give me info on the car i bought this weekend, it is a 1963 gt hawk r-2, ser # 63v-26594 and engine # JTS-1568, thanks for your help,

Good catch! How about pictures and more info?[]

I've never had an r2 car myself, and my knowledge is limited, but I can give this much: I believe an engine with a JT prefix is an r1 (non-supercharged) and the JTS prefix indicates an r2 (supercharged). So that adds up!

    Looking forward to more info!

You Lucky guy! The 63 GT/R2 you have should be powered by a Jet-thrust V8 engine with supercharger.
It is 289 cu. in. displacement , 9:1 Compression ratio, 4 Barrel Carb. I'm not sure of the horsepower other than it is close to 300.One source I have lists the HP at 290 bhp.

Other forum guys will likely chime in with the right number(s). There were only 4009, 1963 Hawks produced domestically in South Bend Ind.
The car weighs in the vicinity of 3500 pounds.
Please post photos. The heading threads have a description of how to post graphics to the forum.

The car is 100% complete as far as I can tell. The guy I got it from bought it 10 years ago in LV, some paper work in the car shows it sold new in Sacramento. It has sat in the sun alot, very bad paint and uph, but it looks as if no one ever messed with anything, all stock, I will try to put pictures on when I get home. No rust that I can find, very nice body. well thanks for your help so far.

Your car was built as a factory Rose Mist, R2, Powershift transmission, disk brakes, no Twin Traction, engine S1568.

What trans do you have? Is it a "package" car (rear sway bar, traction arms, ect? If it is a package car & a 4 speed, does it have a rear axle snubber bumper on the body above the rear axle pinion? I have a non-package car (november 62 production) & installed a rear sway bar, but it rubs on the snubber on bumps. I wish you all the best with your Hawk. Mine has been a great car to me for almost 20 yrs already!

My car has the rose mist with a white top, do you you think someone painted the top white or would it come that way? It is auto floor shift, no traction bars and 120mph speedo. JDP you said engine S1568, what does that mean? Thanks again guys, PS does anyone know how many of these cars they made?

If i am correct, studebaker didnt offer a 2 tone combination in 63. if your engine is the original one, the engine # should read JTS 1568 on the left side front pad behind the water manifold, next to the valve cover. If memory serves me, there were less than 300 R-2 hawks built that year & 56(?) were rose mist. (same color as mine was once & hope to have again) The "package" cars came with 160 mph speedo so yours is much like mine other than the transmission.
