I don't believe Studebakers were ever exceedingly rare in South Africa. In early 1970's, and in school, I had a substitute teacher one day who was from South Africa, who basically asked the class, 'Go ahead, ask me anything about my country!', so I off-the-wall asked if there were any Studebakers there. He replied with a rather emphatic 'Yes', and stated he had a friend who owned a 1956 Power Hawk with RHD, and mentioned there were a number of them still on the road when he left for Canada.
