            • I am working in Harrisburg, PA with a fellow who now lives in Atlanta but who is originally from Aberdeen, SD. Yesterday when I was mentioning my love for Studebakers, he said, "Really?! My grandfather was a dealer in Aberdeen, SD".

He called his brother today to get more details, but apparently the dealership was called Dakota Motors. His brother felt their grandfather started selling Studes in around '41 or so and feels the place closed around '59 or so, after the grandfather's death. The one son ran the dealership for a short period after.

The grandfather (owner) was named John Maurseth.

              Sound familiar to anybody?

Guess he also owned a Ford dealer in Britton, SD from the mid'30's to early '40's but got out of it when he moved his family to Aberdeen and concentrated on the Stude dealership.

              • The dealership name of the postings from Lark8 girl from 2/4/09 (the second one down) is making me cringe. Would be a great name for a tatoo show on TV.

                  • While rummaging through the paperwork I received from Kinney Motor Company (I bought their dealer-stock in the 80's).. I found this transfer paperwork from (2) as yet unlisted OHIO dealers.

                    Hogle Motor Sales Inc.
                    2600 State Rt No. 5
                    Telephone AXminster 6-9626
                    Ravenna, Ohio

I had to clean it up a bit... as it was hard to read the green letters on the yellow paper.

I also found a "Car-Order" form from: Terry Auto Sales: ...but I'm not sure if they were a Studebaker "dealer". It is an order for a NEW 62S Y6 Regal in Riviera Blue.

                    Terry Auto Sales
                    519 Lincoln Way, East
                    Tele: TEmple 2-7463
                    Massillon, Ohio

I also have about 20 different sales-orders... I'm building an excel file on the serial numbers and I plan on scanning and posting the orders... maybe some of these cars are still around.

I live one town over from Ravenna, OH...it's probably five or six miles up the road. I remember seeing at the SNM archives years ago, that Hogle sold out in '62 and Jim Lee bought the Studebaker business and called it Jim Lee's Studebaker. Jim Lee also ran a body shop and sold campers!

I wrote a Hogle in the phone book one time...an attorney in Ravenna. It was his Dad's place. His letter was polite but he didn't have any memorabilia from the place (my goal!). I also wrote a Jim Lee but heard nothing back...but with that common a name, maybe it wasn't THAT Jim Lee.

I am about 90% certain that the 2600 Rt. 5 address, was the same location Jim Lee operated his Stude dealership out of. It is midway between Kent and Ravenna. It looked like a ranch-style house with several additions built on, as I remember the empty building. It became Guy's Auto Body, who later built a new building up the road. When Wal-Mart came to town (sigh), the building was razed and Wal-Mart covers the site now.

I had to look at a map to see where Barnesville, OH was. Pretty far south and east from here...below I-70. Looks like a small town, even compared to where I grew up!

                      • Here are three dealerships I did not see listed. Oh yes after 12 pages they may have been missed but it will not hur to list them again. I know of two as a child when my father purchased a 49 2R5 brand new from Sand's motors in Kenmare North Dakota, and a 47 M16A from Smith Motors in Bemidji. Many years later I purchased the remaining parts from Tiedke & son Studebaker in Oconto, Wisconsin. I junked a 64 Lark wagon with a build sheet under the glove box that stated it was delivered to a dealership in ladysmith, Wisconsin. I will try to find that sheet. Ted

                            • This is one of my favorite threads. I love seeing these old dealership names preserved. I do have a question about dealerships. In researching the Studebaker dealers in my home town of Fayetteville, NC, I have found many early ones listed as "Studebaker Agents." Does this term "agent" have some special significance?
