  • It's looks like it has an aftermarket tractor heater like in my Dad's One-Eighty and One-Ninety XT. Well the truck is orange....
1963 Champ "Stu Bludebaker"- sometimes driver
1957 Silver Hawk "Josie"- picking up the pieces after an unreliable body man let it rot for 11 years from an almost driver to a basket case
1951 Land Cruiser "Bunnie Ketcher" only 47M miles!
1951 Commander Starlight "Dale"- basket case
    1947 Champion "Sally"- basket case
1941 Commander Land Cruiser "Ursula"- basket case

There must have been a "Western Auto" or another aftermarket brand - photo is of my Uncle's 2R5 when he was restoring it back in 1995 or so.

      • That box heater is identical to a '57 or '58 Scotsman CAR Standard equipment Heater, it COULD be.

They even had round knockouts on the sides to add Defroster Hoses.

          • Would a 53 sedan doghouse fit on a champ?

That would certainly be different! If I had one (or access to one) it would be worth a try. I do have an extra Champ frame & cab here and know a 56 front end fit a 54 sedan. Hmmmmmm

              • Tom, it should be doable with some work/mods. some Years ago Some One put a 55 Sedan front clip on a Champ Truck. the upper rear corner of the 53 Fenders would need to be rounded to fit the Champ Cowl.not sure about the Hood to Cowl fit,if any thing needs to be modified ?

I doubt it as '53's don't have a wrap-around windshield like from mid-'55 through '62. And the other issue is a shorter distance between the front wheels and the cowl, unless one wants to go through a lot of work and move the cab rearwards.

Overdrive, climitizer, earlier V8 motor, and Brand-X radio. Clear that the floor have been patched and the bed has been worked over quite well...

Production order shows original equipment. Interesting that it sat on the overflow lot in South Bend from May to October of 1963 and was then purchased by the State of Colorado.

                        • Looks like it may have had a Sliding Window and Radio & Antenna added since New and possibly Stainless Hub Caps like a T6 Cab.

Note that "Clean UP" was noted on the P.O. after 5 Months, it must have been Due!

It was built with H.D. Rear Springs, but they also wanted H.D. Fronts, smaller standard size 6.70 X 15 BUT H.D. 6 Ply Truck Tires not Car type like the Optional 7.10X15 Car Tires it was built with.

Proves once again, Studebaker would do WHATEVER it takes to sell a Car, and ANYTHING to sell a Truck!

                              • Rich, While painting my T-Cab I saw that there was no paint under the serial # plate, so I did the same thing.
