Hi, Here is a '60 Posted on eBay.
1960 Studebaker LARK VIII CONVERTIBLE California Car.
The Hackenberger car is up to $1800 as of 7/12 AM and will most likely go higher. The eBay car has a buy now price of $5800.
Any advice for a Stude newbe who is looking to take make a purchase of a 60 Lark Conv.? Your comments and thoughts would be very much appreciated.
Thank you. Mike

The problems with that V8 Car are: you really do not know the Floors, Hog Trough/Torque Box and Rocker Panel condition, it has a GM Engine install, how well done?
It has a Purple repaint and a BLUE Re-done Interior that needs replacement.
The poor cellphone pics on the trailer, in poor light do not help at all.
The engine-less Six is a WAY better Car for under $7000.00.Last edited by StudeRich; 07-12-2017, 09:43 AM.StudeRich

Welcome to the SDC and to the SDC Forum.
That is OK, you are not alone in misunderstanding those markings and codes, many people do not think about or understand that ANY Raised markings on a Casting such as a Engine block or cylinder head ARE PART OF the MOLD and in MOST cases can NOT be changed on every unit.
The Date Code on the top, Rear of the Block, was the only exception, it had a visible rectangle INSERT in the Mold that WAS changed every day and it's outline can be clearly seen around the Alpha Numeric Code.
This 535601 is the Basic Mold (Casting Number) used on ALL 1955 to early 1962 V8 partial flow filter blocks, 224, 259 and 289 final cubic inches after machining and Assembly.
To determine the size and year of the Engine, you need the actual Engine Serial Number, NOT the Casting Number, which of course HAS to be hand STAMPED INTO the Iron on the machined flat Pad on the Drivers side, top front corner of the block, just wipe it clean to read it.
Your other picture is only of the Body Tag, that only tells you that your BODY is the 240th. 1960 V8 Deluxe 2 Door Sedan welded up on the Body Line, it says NOTHING about the actual completed CAR!
The BODY Numbers were not in sequence with the Frames and finished Car.
If you want to know anything about the actual CAR, you need the SERIAL NUMBER from the driver's door Post THAT is the number you are attempting to associate with.Last edited by StudeRich; 08-06-2017, 01:22 PM.StudeRich

The engine engine number in your photo is a casting number. The engine number you want to see would be stamped, not cast, like the number in your photo. It is located on the front, drivers side of the motor.
Body numbers start at 101, sow nothing out of the ordinary there.
If you have other questions just ask, I have had my Lark nearly 20 years, and live in the Chicag area too.

I thought the sequence started with 1001 for the 60's. Also the engine number appears to be from 1962? Can someone also confirm that? Thank you.

Thanks to StudeRich and 2R2 I was able to instruct the seller on where to find the engine serial number and the serial number from the driver's door. The latter had been painted over and looked to be a part of the door but they managed to take some of the paint off. Engine #V455529, Door serial #60V-2123. Thanks again guys.
