Gentlemen:
I do not mind a two steps forward and one step back day. A week or so ago I had one of those five steps back day. I had taken the WCFB apart to clean out a few of the idle passages. When reinstalling it I managed to snap one of the studs off at the intake manifold. I then proceeded to snap an easy-out off at the surface of the manifold. $125 and two machine shops later the broken pieces were out and a new stud put back in.
I took advantage of the intake being out by going ahead and taking off the valve covers and resetting the valve lash. While I was reinstalling the carburetor today I noticed that one of the ears on the throttle body was cracked. I went ahead and installed it. I tightened the three good corners pretty snug and just snugged down a little on the cracked corner. I was pleasantly surprised that the car started up and idled pretty nicely. I am living on borrowed time however and want to try to pick up a pretty decent throttle body or complete WCFB carburetor.
My car is a 1955 President State Sedan with DG 250-M automatic. The carb is tagged as a 2214SA. The 55-58 parts catalog appears to indicate that the same throttle body is used for all those years of Studebakers except the 56J. The carb is in pretty good shape except for the throttle body. I would prefer buying just the throttle body and marrying it up to what I have. My email is cdmusgrove@atlasok.com
Thank you,
Charlie D.
