  • Brakes: Clutch pedal return spring install

Any tricks or special tool to stretch the pedal return spring that whole inch to fit the hole in the bracket near the rear of the master??? (63 Hawk )

Don't have a Hawk, but the C cab trucks have the same problem. One technique that worked for me was a loop of several strands of thin nylon line -- about 6" in diameter It's flexible, easy to grab with four fingers, and can be cut away if it gets caught under the spring.

That sounds like the clutch pedal return spring. I use a brake spring pliers. If you are talking about the brake pedal return spring, it hooks into a tab on the pedal bracket and goes forward to a hole in the frame.I remove the sheet metal cover under the pedals to get to that hole.

Flex the spring, and put washers in the spring gap on the open side. then flex it the other way, and do the same on the opposite side. Then you can easily slip the spring ends over the retainers. Then when you step on the clutch, and extend the spring, the washers will fall out.

Took 15 washers and some elbow grease to stretch the last 1/4 inch, it's on. Thanks guys.
