  • Electrical: Champ Light switch

The manual calls for switch 1547356 for a 1962 Champ 7E-5
    Can I use switch 1551530 for a 61-62 lark and 63-64 Truck?

I believe 1547365 is a dimmer switch (mounts on the floor), did you mean 1549564?

If so, perhaps someone out there can answer your question about interchangeability.

you are right. I need to know the difference between 1549564 and 1551530 switches.

Maybe the knob is a different color.

The 1551530 has the instrument light dimmer switch rheostat built into it. I don't have the earlier switch for comparison, but I think that is what may be different. As far as the function as a headlight switch it should be a good substitute.

I know the HL switch in my '60 Lark is such that the instrument lights come on only if it is pulled out all the way (3 clicks). I'd like to change it so the instrument lights come on in park or HL positions. I'd like to know if 1551530 would work too. (Sorry John, I don't mean to hijack your post!)
Looks like the 1549564 is what is in my '60, and the 1551530 is about $30 cheaper!

I too have a '60 Lark. It has been quite some time since I've had it on the road, but I believe my instrument lights come on with only park lights, and stay on right through all positions. I could be wrong. However, usually, the wires on these switches can be moved and manipulated to perform to your liking. You can simply move the wires to what ever terminal you would like to accomplish your wishes. Like, making a jumper wire to keep your park lights on when your head lights are on. If you want your instruments to burn at full brightness all the time, you can bypass the dimmer rheostat. The main thing is to make sure you keep all circuit breakers, and fuses in proper place, don't overload the circuits, and use appropriate gauge wire for your current demands.

The top switch is 1551530 (fits 61 & 62 Larks), the bottom is 1549564 (fits 1960 Lark and T-Cab trucks). While they look different the major difference is the reostat to control dash lights brightness and the fuse holder on the 1551530. One other difference is the mounting shaft has the flat sides, which fit in the hole in the dash, turned 90 degrees from each other. This would require some fitting to mount the 1551530 switch when used on the T-Cab. When I looked at the dash from my 1960 Lark it had the 1551530 installed in place of the original switch, so it appears that the later switch can be substituted for the earlier one.
