  • Paint: Maui Blue

    Hello,

I am looking for some information regarding the color Maui Blue for my restoration project of a 1951 Land Cruiser. I managed to find a paint tag under the dash board that appears to give me information from 1951. I doubt that the company exists anymore, so I am looking for some alternatives before I strip the paint. The local paint store is a little baffled and there isn't too many options where I live.

We have a couple of cans of N.O.S. Maui Blue which could be useful for paint matching, not sure it if it would be usable!

Maui blue was a fairly common color at that time. Any good paint store can match the paint in a modern paint. There are also some sites which have paint mixing info.

It looks like you going to have to TRAVEL a bit to a Larger Town with a real Automotive Paint Store that sells PPG, RM, Dupont etc. to get the Paint Mixed. All of the Major Co. old Paint Color Charts should show the Maui Blue, I have only seen it on '52's.

I would suggest a trip for you & your wife to Maui. If you look around, I think you'll get an idea of what Authentic Maui Blue is. Then, go to a local auto paint store on the island & tell them zackly what you want, and have 'em mix it up. Then, you're all set.

AND it's cool you still have that color tag; they usually fell off and were lost!

I'm not sure, but I assume that the R N Nason company is the same Nason paint line that is typically sold by Dupont paint stores as a cheaper alternative to Dupont.

Did you try M&M Paint in Medford?

                      Hello,

I didn't try them yet. I wrote directly to DuPont who quickly replied that they had recently sold the portion of the company to another company. I am awaiting a response from the other company.
