I have no idea about an interchange, but if your car is a stick and has no other problems roll it down a hill or get someone to help you push start it. Unless the carburetor is dry, the engine should start quickly when you let out the clutch in 2nd gear.
Oh, if you don't have a hill, but do have help, pulling it a short distance on a chain will work. Just don't run over the tow vehicle when the engine starts.

Even if it has an automatic transmission (provided it's period to the car) you can push start it, but it needs to go about 25 mpg, the rear pump will turn the engine over.

I hope everything worked out. When I saw the post his morning I thought it was 7:59 AM today and not yesterday evening.

The only "Interchange" would be another Year '47-'55, of Champion with the same Transmission Type.

The original part number #526214, Model MZ-4157. Rebuild kits appear to be available from sources like Studebaker International but a quick search turned up no new parts. The same starter was used from 1950 through 1955 so there must be a lot of them out there in various conditions. I just took the starter from my 1950 Champion to a starter/generator shop and had it rebuilt. Works great and was a lot cheaper. Good luck.

Champion engines use the same starter whether manual or automatic transmission.

I just realized I left something out of my original post. If the car has overdrive the lockout handle must be pulled out.
