  • Electrical: tinted headlight covers

I have tinted Avanti square acrylic headlight covers which will not pass inspection. Does anyone know where I can find clear glass covers?

i'd probably just take them off for inspection - maybe at another inspection site.

if you want clear ones, you may try "Nostalgic Motors" at (800) AVANTI-X.. i picked up some round acrylics for my '63 off of ebay a few years ago - very rare and they weren't cheap!

BTW: unless you are only driving in the daytime or for show, tinted headlight covers are a safety issue.

Interesting that they would mandate the stock covers "illegal" after all these years. When the first safety laws came into effect around the 67,68 model years, other makes such as Jaguar (on the XKE) eliminated the covers. Nowadays though, all headlamps are basically clear plastic (acrylic) lenses with a replaceable bulb inside. It's been 40+ years since I had to have a vehicle go through a state inspection. Are yours done at a state owned site (like in New Jersey) or a privately owned shop that is licensed to do the inspections as in Pennsylvania? It just may be the personal interpretation of one inspector. I would ask for the section of the DMV code stating their position.

Tinted covers, the subjest of this thread/topic, were not "stock".
