  • Headlight bulb size

    Hi everyone,
I am a newbie of this forum. I got a white/baby blue 1957 Silver Hawk from my parent's estate. I just realized that size of headlight bulb on my Hawk is quite large than modern round headlight bulb.[:0] I don't think it will be available at any auto part stores locally. I am thinking about buying one or two bulbs as spare parts in case the current bulbs were burned out. It is possble to order Stude vendors online? What is part number? Thanks for any your help in advance.
    Thanks, Steven

Any auto parts store will carry them. No need to buy spares. (save that spare money for fuel pumps and water pumps )

I know the "W" word is bad to some folks, but Wal-Mart has the sealed beam headlamps for cheap.[:I] I got halogen units for my truck for about $12. Tungsten filaments were about $7.

PS - Welcome to the Forum Steven, post a pic of your '57 when you have a minute.

The original industry standard part number was/is 6012. Parts stores should have Wagner or Sylvania in standard filament may still be called 6012 and the Halogen ones are 6014 it's a standard 2 light system bulb, I think Jeep CJ and Liberty still use a real gas filled Sealed Beam, these last WAY longer than those little toy "bulbs" new cars have.

But remember Dick that there is a $30.00 shipping cost involved, so with a $10.00 opening bid your total cost would be $40.00 (or $2.50 each).

OK Mark57, Here is attached photo of barn fresh '57 Hawk in Iowa. It was taken at my parent's estate four years ago. This car still needs some engine work, It has 289-V8 with auto and power steering, however it don't have power brake. Iam quite surprised to see the interior looks very nice. Thanks, Steven

Thanks Steven... now everyone can enjoy the pic (nice looking Hawk). BTW, if you change the [IMG} to lower case letters (which I did in my quote from you), the photo will show up right on the forum page.

Welcome to the forum. Cool car! I just love that blue/white paint scheme. [^]

My grandad has one in monotone black that he's owned since 1979. He would probably get rid of me before he did that car. [)]

I am officially declaring myself to be an old guy...
(I thought about a different tag for 'old guy', but this is a family forum)
Steven.. A heartfelt welcome to the world of Studebakers...
You go right ahead and ask any old question you want...
Time is marching right past a lot of us and we take so much knowledge for granted (like headlight bulbs for example!)...
I had to show a young'un how a vintage Coca-Cola bottle had to be opened not too long ago.....
We take so much vintage technical stuff for granted.
Your question is a refreshing reminder that our knowledge is something to be shared, and not hoarded...

Speaking of Coke bottles, I have about 525 old 6 and 6.5 oz. Coke bottles that I would like to get rid of. They are empty, but are stored in cardboard 6 and 8 pack holders. I sorted through them once and the bottoms indicate they came from bottlers in about 175 different cities. I can even bring them to Reedsville if I am paid prior to leaving (in other words I will not haul them there without a buyer).
