  • Interior: Seat Belt Installation

I have to put seat belts in my 64 Champ. Does anyone have a recommendation for a maker? Thank you.

If you are going with what would have been "original" to the vehicle, there are Studebaker venders that sell lap belts with the Studebaker emblems on them. I put belts in my '62 Champ over the winter and got a colored belt that matches the new seat covers I had installed. Below is a photo of the belts installed - bags are simply there to keep the webbing clean - garage and I can be pretty dirty. Good luck.

Steve, I don't know the name of the company, but at spring Carlisle in April there is a vender specializing in seat belts to the left of and right below the grandstand. I think Carlisle events could help you with the name either on their web site or by phone. I'm also sure Studebaker international will have belts--Check their web siti and online catalog Gordon

All the above - Plus, be sure to install reinforcing plates under the floor to hold the bolts/nuts securely.

Ratsy Seat Belt Co was the OEM. I have two belts in red that were removed from a '64 Avanti....pm me if interested.

In 1978 I put lap/shoulder belts from a late 1970's Chevrolet pickup in my 1950 GMC. They turned out to be very comfortable, and I still like them. I bought another set years ago that I plan to install in my 1949 2R5 truck as part of my resurrection of it. I have not yet tried to fit them, but it does appear that it can be done. Attached are photos. Sorry about the shag carpeting covering the top connection (it was in 1978), but there is a panel similar to the one that can be seen in the Studebaker photo. I drilled a hole in it and used a backing plate, as is suggested above then carpeted over it. I recently bought a 3rd set for another truck on Ebay.
