  • Question on serial numbers

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here could decipher the serial number for my 47 Commander? Like the original color or the place it was bulit?
48I9I45 - This on is on the diver's door jam

14A-W5 This one is on the firewall.
    11082

    I was told the 14A = the year(1947), W = the body(4 door) and 5 = the trim(DeLuxe)

    Thanks
    Steve

    Welcome to the Forum!

I will try from the book I have.

48I9I45 - This on is on the diver's door jam

By the number it looks like it was built in the Los Angeles assembly plant

14A-W5 This one is on the firewall.

14A means it is a 47 Commander, W means it is a regular 4 door not a Land Cruiser and "5" means it is a Regal DeLuxe, not just a DeLuxe. 11082 is the body number.

None of the numbers tell the color. The serial number is not a VIN as we know them today. There may be a body color tag under the glove compartment.

Thanks for the help! Does the # on the engine give any info as well?

There was only one engine available on the 47 Commander. It was a 226.2 cu.in. flathead six.
