  • Fuel System: What Is The Throttle Return Check (Dash Pot) I Don't Have One

I was looking in the Shop Manual to see how to adjust something and started reading around and see a heading on how to adjust Throttle Return Check (Dash Pot). I then think to myself, I don't recall ever seeing that....and sure enough it is not there.

This is a 61 289 with 4 barrel. It runs great, shifts fine, so what am I missing?.....Maybe it's like an appendix nice to have but you don't need it! Please advise me what it does, and if I should try to get one. Thanks.

It is for Cars with Automatic Trans. which are always engaged, so an abrupt stop and a quick snapping release of the Gas Pedal will cause a stall. This just returns the throttle slowly to prevent that.

If you have an Auto. Trans. you may not even miss it.
