  • what kind of paint used

I am about to paint my steering wheel what kind of paint have forum memebers used in the past? Do you use plastic paint or auto 2 stage paint.

I think either method would work. I put the plastic paint on mine because I had a rattle can of it laying around.Haven't actually driven the car yet,but I think it will hold up,and the gloss looks about right.

The guy who painted my car and truck used regular Centari acrylic enamel, but used clear acrylic as the last wet pass. It has held up well, stays glossy.

I did a quick paint job of a rough condition wheel for my '53 so to have something in the car to drive it while I was working on the "good" one. I used the same Centauri acrylic enamel I had from doing the dash and garnish mouldings. I didn't even prep other than wiping down with degreaser. I still haven't got my good wheel done yet and the bad one has been in the car for 4yrs and no problems with the paint coming off. This was mixed auto paint with hardener, I would wonder if rattle can paint would not hold up as well?? My "good" wheel came to me with a obvious rattle can spray job, I had no problem removing that with a rag dampened with lacquer thinner.

I have used auto enamel on dashes and steering wheels.
